Does Thai people look similar to Cambodians?

Why are Thai people now and days so light skinned like Chinese? Because Thai people are actually really really dark skinned like Cambodians, is It because Thai people like to have mixed babies w/ Chinese,Korean,viet,japanese and french? So that they can come out light skinned? I think Thai and Cambodians look exactly alike I usually can't tell the difference.
